Merge neighbors in the sequence: 1+1, 1+2, 2+3… Reach 2584 to win!

2048 Fibonacci

This version keeps the sliding board you know from 2048 but swaps the doubling rule for the Fibonacci sequence. Instead of joining two equal tiles, you join two numbers that sit next to each other in the sequence: 1 and 1 make 2, 1 and 2 make 3, 2 and 3 make 5, and so on, all the way up to 2584.

How to play 2048 Fibonacci

Slide the board with the arrow keys or W A S D, or swipe on the board if you're on a phone. Every tile moves as far as it can. Two tiles merge when they're neighbors in the sequence 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21…, and the new tile is their sum. After each move, a 1 (now and then a 2) shows up in an empty cell. Build a 2584 tile to win, then keep going if you want a bigger score.

The rule that trips everyone up

Equal tiles almost never merge here. Two 2s, or two 5s, will sit side by side forever, because 2 + 2 and 5 + 5 aren't Fibonacci numbers. The only twin pair that works is 1 + 1. For your first few games, your classic 2048 instinct will keep hunting for twins. Look for next-door numbers instead.

Why it's a longer game

A merge never changes the total of all the numbers on the board. It just packs them into fewer tiles. New tiles here are worth about 1.1 on average, compared with 2.2 in classic 2048. So reaching 2584 takes roughly 2,350 moves, while getting to 2048 in the original takes around 930. Settle in.

FAQs

Why is the goal 2584 and not 2048?

2048 isn't a Fibonacci number, so no tile can ever show it. 2584 is the closest Fibonacci number, which makes it the natural stand-in.

How is the score counted?

Each merge adds the value of the tile it creates. Merging 34 and 55 adds 89 to your score.

Is my best score saved?

Yes, in your browser on this device, separately from the other games on this site. Clearing your browser data resets it.
