Flappy 2048

Flappy 2048 is a single-player arcade game that crosses Flappy Bird with 2048. You steer a number tile through gaps in a stream of green walls, and every five walls you pass, the tile merges up to the next number, from 2 all the way to 2048.

How to play Flappy 2048

Tap or click the board, or press Space, ↑ or W, to flap. Let go and you fall. Each wall you pass scores a point, and every five walls your tile doubles, so 2048 takes 50 walls. Touch a wall and the run is over, but the floor and ceiling are safe, so you can rest on the floor when the next gap is low. Only the middle 45% of your tile counts as a hit, so near misses are forgiven. The game pauses on its own if you scroll away or switch tabs, and gives you a second of safety when you come back.

What the numbers say

The walls start out scrolling at 2 cells per second and speed up a little with every wall. By the 50th wall they are 62% faster, and the time between walls has shrunk from 1.7 seconds to about 1 second. A flawless run to 2048 takes about 67 seconds.

Every gap is two cells tall and can only sit in three places: top, middle, or bottom. So the next gap is at the same height a third of the time, one step away 44% of the time, and a full top-to-bottom swing about 1 time in 5.

Tips

• Tap in a steady rhythm instead of mashing. One flap lifts the tile only about 0.6 of a cell.
• Climbs are harder than drops. Gravity does the work going down, but getting from a bottom gap to a top gap takes several flaps, so start early.
• Use the floor. If the next gap is at the bottom, there's no need to hover.
