Doge 2048
Doge 2048 is a single-player sliding-tile puzzle game based on the classic 2048, played on a 4×4 grid where every tile is a doge instead of a number. You slide all the doges in one direction, two matching doges merge into the next, fancier doge, and you win by unlocking the golden 2048 doge.
How to play Doge 2048
Slide the doges with the arrow keys or W A S D, or swipe on the board. After every move a plain doge, or now and then a winking one, appears in an empty cell. Two identical doges that bump into each other merge into the next doge, and each merge makes the doge say something, like "such merge" or "much wow". The game ends when the board is full and nothing can merge. Undo takes back your last move.
Meet the 11 doges
A plain pup starts things off at 2. Each step after that adds something new: a wink at 4, a tongue at 8, a party hat at 16, sunglasses at 32, a bow tie at 64, a gold chain at 128, a rainbow at 256, a crown at 512, star eyes at 1,024, and finally the golden coin doge at 2048. Every doge you reach is saved in your browser, even between games, and the ones you haven't found show up as shadows.
How far do random swipes get?
In 3,000 simulated games of random swipes, a game lasted about 113 moves. Over nine in ten unlocked the bow tie doge, about half reached the gold chain, and 1 in 15 reached the rainbow. None unlocked the crown. A bot that only sweeps down and left did far better: about 215 moves a game, the gold chain in nine games out of ten, the rainbow in half, and the crown in fewer than one in twenty.
Tips
- Keep your biggest doge in a corner and build a chain along that edge, so each merge feeds the next one.
- Merge small doges before they get stranded between big ones, because a lone pup behind a crown can clog the board fast.
- Don't rush the collection. The crown and the star-eyed doge only turn up in long, tidy games.
FAQs
Is Doge 2048 different from the original 2048?
The rules are identical: a 4×4 board, merges of equal tiles, and a win at the 2048 tile. Only the artwork and the doge chatter are new.
Do I keep my doge collection when I start a new game?
Yes. It's saved in your browser on this device, so new games and closing the tab don't reset it. Clearing your browser data does.
Can I turn off the doge chatter?
There's no button for it, but if your device has "reduce motion" turned on, the chatter and the pop-in animations stay off.
The idea of a doge-filled 2048 is inspired by Doge 2048 by Jorge MD. All doge artwork here is original. Doge is an internet meme, and this fan project is not affiliated with it.
