Cubes 2048 IO is a free arena game that mixes the number-merging of 2048 with the grow-or-get-eaten feel of .io games. You steer a numbered cube across an open arena. And then, merge it with cubes that carry the same number to double its value. The goal is to climb a live leaderboard without running into something bigger than you.

How to play Cubes 2048 Game

First, you type a name you like, then press Tap to Start. Your cube begins as a red 2 and follows your pointer: move the mouse, or drag on a touchscreen. A small arrow under the cube shows where it is heading. On a computer, hold the left mouse button to speed up. On a phone, use the round speed button in the corner. The tutorial hand draws a figure eight for a reason: the cube never sits still, so keep steering in smooth curves.

Reading the screen

The top-right leaderboard lists ranks, names, and scores, with big numbers shortened to 1K and up and crowns on the top three. Messages like "Winchester defeated Smoke Zone" scroll past whenever a cube is wiped out. Large dark-gray slabs mark the edge of the arena, so a cube pinned against one has fewer ways out.

When your cube is destroyed, a ring counts down from seven and offers one revive. That revive is built around a rewarded video, so treat it as a bonus, not a plan. The same goes for the "Start bigger" bubble on the menu.

Tips

• Collect and merge the loose 2s first. Staying small and quick near the edge of the crowd is safer than charging into the middle.
• Check the number before you close in. My first run ended in about two seconds because I drifted toward a 16 while still a 2.
• You should save the speed boost for escaping or for a clean merge. It is hard to turn sharply at full speed.
• Take care of the leaderboard now and then. If the same name keeps climbing, steer away from that part of the arena.
